George Town car crash dead
(CNS) UPDATE: The man killed on Saturday night in what appears to be a head-on collision on South Church Street has been identified as Carlos Luyang Patricio, a 37-year-old Filipino, who lived and worked in Cayman for a local. auto business. The other four people injured in the two car crash remain in hospital in serious but stable condition.
The accident is being investigated by the Traffic and Roads Police Unit and anyone with information is asked to contact them at 649-6254 or George Town Police Station at 949-4222 .
Original story published on Sunday: A man died and at least three other people were seriously injured in a collision on Saturday night involving two cars and five people on South Church Street in George Town. Police have now cleared the road after working through the night to rescue the victims and then piece together what happened. The fatal collision of a Toyota and a Kia was reported around 8 p.m. near Parsons Circle. Firefighters attended the scene and extricated the occupants of the vehicles.
One vehicle had two occupants while the other had three, and the five people were transported to hospital by ambulance. A man was declared dead by the attending physician.
What appears to have been a frontal crash is currently under investigation by police, but no further official details of the crash have been released.
The anonymous victim is the eighth person to be killed on Cayman’s roads this year. According to the latest RCIPS statistics released at the end of September, an average of 225 motor vehicle collisions are reported to the police each month.
