Red light: Metal rod used to hit the road rage victim at the traffic light intersection



KOTA KINABALU: A man lost several teeth and suffered multiple head injuries, including fractures to his face, after being beaten in a recent road rage incident in the city.

The victim, Aaron Liew, 21, was reportedly beaten over a misunderstanding at a traffic light junction near City Mall, not far from here at around 10 p.m. on Monday, March 29.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said that according to the victim, he scolded a driver of a vehicle next to him when they stopped at a red light because the driver would not have made a signal before changing lanes .

An argument apparently broke out and turned ugly when the 36-year-old driver got out of his car and started attacking the victim with a metal rod.

“The suspect allegedly struck the windshield of the victim’s car before hitting her with the metal rod,” he said.

ACP Majinji said the suspect left the scene afterwards and that efforts were being made to locate the suspect, who has since been identified, to aid investigations into the case.

The injured victim was taken to hospital by passers-by following the incident.
