Sabah needs help from federal government due to increase in Covid-19 cases, says Kota Kinabalu MP
KOTA KINABALU: Federal government must help Sabah by deploying more medical staff and speeding up vaccinations as front lines in the state are overwhelmed by the number of new cases of Covid-19, the MP for Kota Kinabalu said, Chan Foong Hin.
“Sabah has been hit hard in recent days, recording more than 2,000 new cases of Covid-19 and more than half of the cases involved are in the three districts around Greater Kota Kinabalu – Penampang, Putatan and Tuaran,” a- he declared.
He added that experts predict the pandemic will continue to peak over the next eight weeks.
As such, he said the state needs to get more medical help and increase the availability of vaccines.
He said staff at Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital have already been redeployed to Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital dedicated to Covid-19 to meet medical staff needs.
âGeneral outpatients are redirected to government clinics like Luyang Health Clinic,â he said after donating two tents to Luyang Clinic here.
He said people should take the threat of the pandemic seriously and observe standard operating procedures, as the 1,258 beds available in hospitals here are fully utilized.
âAt this point, please don’t go out if you don’t need to and just stay home,â Chan said.
