Trinny Woodall reveals she was ‘blunt’ with her friend Susannah Constantine through a battle with alcohol
Last year, Susannah Constantine revealed she was an alcoholic who had been recovering for seven years.
Now the 59-year-old former presenter What not to wear Co-host Trinny Woodall spoke about how she supported her friend during this difficult time.
Speaking to Sunday Telegraph Of the period after the couple quit working together in 2014, the fashion expert, 57, said: âWe stayed really close and I was there for her during her battle against the alcoholism.
“I have been addicted myself and I am further ahead so that we can talk about it.
“But I’m the direct friend, the one who’ll say, ‘What the hell the fuck is going on because you really don’t look good?’ It might be too brutal, but at least I’m getting there. “
Woodall has previously revealed his own alcohol and drug addiction, but this year celebrated 31 years of sobriety.
In November 2020, her friend Constantine told the podcast My companion bought a toaster that she was a “highly functional” alcoholic.
Writing soon after, in a room for the Daily mail, she recalled: “To my shame, I will never forget the moment when it was suggested that my husband take me home after a friend’s 40th birthday because I could barely stand upright.
âAfter years of waking up filled with shame and guilt and asking God for the Four Horsemen to take me away and not bring me back, I knew it was time.
“Drinking had ceased to be fun. I had ceased to be fun. I was no longer in control, it was in control.”
Constantine revealed her turning point was a stay in Cornwall in 2013, during which she passed out and broke two small bones in her back.
Of his closeness to Constantine, Woodall told the Sunday Telegraph, in the same new interview, that the couple were “like two halves of a person.”
The mother-of-one – who has been in a relationship with Charles Saatchi since 2013 – added: “Afterwards, we had to rediscover ourselves.”
Woodall and Constantine started working together in 1994, before becoming famous in 2001 with the BBC series. What not to wear.
In 2006, they defected to ITV where they hosted the show Trinny and Susannah get naked, before separating professionally eight years later.
Woodall went on to found Trinny London – a beauty brand worth £ 180million, according to Forbes – in 2017.
