Two suspected Abu Sayyaf men shot dead on Sandakan Island

Kota Kinabalu: Security forces shot dead two suspected Abu Sayyaf men in a shootout on Timbang Island, Sandakan, at 5 a.m. Friday. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali, when contacted, confirmed the incident and will hold a press conference at Sandakan District Police Headquarters at 11 a.m. He said the incident occurred while security forces were conducting a special operation to locate the remains of the dismantled group in May.


“Security forces also confiscated firearms used by the two suspects at the scene. information, the security forces carried out an operation to find several other members of the Abu Sayyaf group, ”he said.


Police located the two suspected members of Abu Sayyaf in Pulau Timbang, which resulted in the shooting. All members of the security forces are unharmed. On May 8, eight Abu Sayyaf men, including two on a wanted list, were arrested during a raid on a mangrove forest near Taman Sri Arjuna. Police investigation revealed five other members of the terrorist group who were shot dead in a shooting at the same location on May 17.
